Abstract

ABSTRACT The efficiency and permanence of polymer bound antioxidants like polyisobutylene bound paraphenylenediamine (PIB-PD) and chlorinated paraffin wax bound paraphenylene diamine (CPW–PD) in acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR) vulcanizates were studied. These polymer bound antioxidants were found to be less volatile and more resistant to solvent and oil extraction. The vulcanizates showed improved aging resistance in comparison to vulcanizates containing conventional antioxidant. The liquid polymer bound antioxidants reduce the amount of plasticizer required for compounding.
