Abstract

The magnetism of deuterated κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Br, which was situated in the vicinity of a superconductor–antiferromagnet phase boundary, was investigated by magnetization and muon spin rotation (μSR) measurements. Magnetic ordering was observed by μSR measurement under the zero-field condition. Internal fields at muon sites were lower than those of κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Cl. The magnetic transition temperature TN was found to be increased by applying a magnetic field in the magnetization measurements. These two measurements enabled us to conclude that TN at zero field was 11.8 ± 0.7 K, which was significantly lower than the value reported in NMR studies (14–15 K). This finding suggests that this material undergoes Neel order and Mott transition at very close but separated temperatures.
