Abstract

Our purpose is to map potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) genes by interspecific somatic hybridization. Nitrate reductase (NR) mutants of Nicotiana plumbaginifolia are used as fusion partner for the potato. After random partial loss of potato chromosomes from the fusion product it might be possible to localize the compensating NR gene in the potato. N.plumbaginifolia and potato chromosomes can be distinguished (Pijnacker and Ferwerda 1984, Mouras et al. 1986, Pijnacker and Mouras 1986) and the potato chromosomes can be identified individually (Pijnacker and Ferwerda 1984).
