Abstract

It was considered that the changes in electrical conductivity of pellets of UO2 would be related to the progress of sintering in them. Electrical conductivity of sintered urania pellets was measured at room temperature. Powders of different crystallinity were prepared by calcination of ADU at 600° to 1500°C and the samples were sintered at temperatures between 600° to 1500°C. An attempt was made to explain the changes in conductivity on the basis of crystallinity development in the powders, densification of the compacts and grain-growth during sintering.
