Abstract

SUMMARYStrawberry latent ringspot virus (SLRV), arabis mosaic virus, cucumber mosaic virus and an unidentified filamentous rod–shaped virus were isolated from cv. Lathom Blanching celery Plants showing symptoms of ‘strap‐leaf’. Only SLRV induced the disorder when these viruses were sap–transmitted to healthy celery seedlings; the symptoms did not develop until the Plants were mature. The filamentous virus was sap‐ or aphid‐transmitted (in a non‐persistent manner) to only a few umbelliferous species and its particles were appro.ximately 770 nm long.
