Abstract

Summary Synthesis of specific antibody occurred in an in vitro culture system when spleen RNA extracts from chickens immunized with sheep erythrocytes were incubated with recipient spleen cells from nonimmunized birds. The kinetics of the in vitro antibody synthesis corresponded to the kinetics of a primary in vivo immunologic response subsequent to the 2nd day after immunization. The effects of incubating the RNA extract with ribonuclease or chicken anti-SRBC serum upon the in vitro response indicated that an antigenic fragment was a functional component of the RNA extract.
