Abstract

Several discharge modes were observed in a Penning discharge at the transition from the low pressure mode into the high pressure mode. The change of mode is connected with an alteration of the center potential of the Penning discharge. In addition, a change in intensity of the extracted residual-gas ions was observed. The center potential was measured by analyzing the energy of the extracted ions.
