Abstract

Excitation functions for five groups of alpha particle from the P 31( d,α) Si 29 reaction have been measured at the laboratory angle 150° in the deuteron energy range from 1.0 to 2.5 MeV. For each group a number of resonances has been observed. Angular distributions have been measured at angles from 75° to 150° for certain resonance energies and for those between the resonances. These angular distributions prove the reaction to proceed mainly via compound nucleus formation. Relative intensities of the alpha particle groups outside the resonances have been found to follow the 2 I+1 rule ( I is the spin of the residual nucleus).
