Abstract
An illustrated account is given of Antrodia juniperina (Murr.) Niemela & Ryvarden, comb.nov. ( Daedalea juniperina (Murr.) Murr.). It resembles A. heteromorpha , but differs by having smaller spores, larger pores and more robust growth. A. juniperina is reported for the first time from Africa, from one Ethiopian, four Kenyan, and five Tanzanian localities, growing on Juniperus procera . A. juniperina seems to exceed Pyrofomes demidqffii (Lev.) Kotl. & Pouz. as a cedar pathogen in East African montane forests, very often hollowing old tree trunks 1–2 m diam. Cultural characters of the species are described. Characteristics of Antrodia Karst, and Coriolellus Murr, are discussed, and preference is given to the name Antrodia .
