Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the experience gathered during the years in managing students' enrolled in distance learning programs and part time learning programs. Distance learning is a modern way of education, in which technology and human resources interact and create an environment for study, communication and collaboration. During the past years, also part time education is increased as number of students. The new Law of Education (1/2011) states the type of programs which can be organized by a higher education institution. Bachelor programs can be organized in: full time, distance learning and part time education programs. Master degree programs can be organized in full time and part time programs. The ODL Department organizes both distance learning (for bachelor degree programs) and part time (for master degree programs). From the description found in Law of Education, for the mentioned programs there are two common points: separation between students, didactical and administrative staff and the existence of technology in delivering content and information to the students. The students enrolled in these programs are affected in a different measure from the computer mediated interaction. In order to reduce negative consequences, a very good coordination, organization and communication must be ensured. The manager is the person who can suggest a certain type of pedagogical approach of the virtual classroom to the teachers, based upon the experience of the previous years. Using modern tools, the manager can administrate virtual classes, overcoming the barriers related on time and space. The educational platform makes possible communication, collaboration and sharing resources.
