Abstract

Negotiation with the goal of conflict management requires strategic skills to effectively manage the conflicts. The skills involve the use of effective language that can influence trusts of the opposite. This article presents a generic negotiation structure by Prophet Yusuf a.s.in conflict management. The discussion is centralized on how Propohet Yusuf a.s. handled negotiations in the situation where him and the opposite party were both within the same social hierarchy. Research data comprises of seven versus from the Quran on his imprisonment story in Surah Yusuf, with regards to his dialogues with two men. This is a qualitative research and the analysis is based on religious discourse methodology. The findings from this research showed that the generic structure of negotiation discourse by Prophet Yusuf a.s. follows the “problem-solution”framework. This research also proved that the act of politeness in religious discourse and counselling plays the role in restoring the emotions, providing peace and tranquillity in life, apart from building trust, values, and attention among the prisoners.
