Abstract
Cryogenic drift-tube ion mobility–mass spectrometry (IM–MS) was applied to study structures of conformers of dibenzo-24-crown-8 complex with NH4+ ion. Two types of conformers which have different distances between two benzene rings of the crown ether, closed and open conformers, were separately observed in the IM–MS measurement at 86 K. The two types of conformers differed not only in the distance between the two benzene rings, but also in the depth at which the NH4+ was wrapped. The collision cross sections of M+(dibenzo-24-crown-8) (M = Na, K, and NH4) complexes depend on the ionic radii of guest ions.
