Abstract

Some features of the kinetics of chemical reactions occurring in a solid polymer (high activation energy, “stepwise” kinetics etc.) are discussed in relation to the structure of the polymer molecules and the rate of molecular motion. The effect of supermolecular structure and stresses producing strain, on the rate of oxidation of the polymer, is shown. A method for determining the efficiency of antioxidant stabilizers is proposed.
