Abstract
It is shown that expressions for the second- and third-order Hartree–Fock energies can be deduced without using the second- and third-order Hartree–Fock equations and without the help of the Hellmann–Feynman theorem. The structure of the second- and third-order Hartree–Fock and correlation energies are studied in the light of the method recently developed by Sharma and Bowtell.
