Abstract

Polyimide compositions have been investigated, prepared by cyclization from mixtures of polyamic acids of various structure. A phase inversion occurs when the relative content of constituents in the mixture is varied; outside the region of inversion the stiff component is dispersed as rods, the flexible one as spheres. The crystallographic parameters and the texture of the crystallizable component are the same as in the homopolyimide. From the point of view of molecular structure the compositions represent mixtures of block copolyimides with homopolyimides. The size of blocks is considerably larger in chemical cyclization than in thermal cyclization.
