Abstract

Abstract The determination of the crystalline structure of one of the two forms of poly(3,3-diethyl oxetane) detected by calorimetric and X-ray analysis is described. The unit cell is monoclinic with parameters: a = 1.333(7) nm, b = 0.577(2) nm, c (fibre axis) = 0.474(2) nm and γ = 91.1(5)°. After computerized refinement, the final model has a crystallographic R-value of 0.18. The molecular conformation is a planar zigzag, and two chain segments pass through the unit cell. The chain conformation and the packing of chains are discussed in detail and compared with other polyoxetanes.
