Abstract

The structure of densely crosslinked epoxide polymers was studied. These polymers were unfilled and filled with ferric γ-oxide. When selecting the solvent its affinity to epoxy oligomers was used as criterion. Comparative investigation of sorption and thermomechanical properties of films of both types showed that the affinity between the epoxy oligomer and the solvent only has an influence in the presence of a filler. Increasing the difference between solubility parameters reduces the extent of crosslinking of filled films; asudden increase in internal stress in films as a consequence of strengthening the structure of boundary layers is observed with similar solubility parameters.
