Abstract

Y 1− x Ca x Ba 1.8Nd 0.2Cu 3O y (YCBNC) compounds with x≤0.50 are synthesized using the solid state reaction technique. The structure for all samples is characterized by X-ray diffraction with Rietveld refinements. The structural parameters change with the content of Ca in YCBNC. The orthorhombic strain decreases with the increase of Ca content. The transport properties for YCBNC are measured by the standard four-probe method in the temperature range from 20 to 300 K. The superconducting transition temperature decreases with the increase of Ca content in YCBNC. The resistivity dependence of temperature, and the relation of the structural parameters vs. the content of Ca show that a competition mechanism may exist in YCBNC due to Ca replacing for Y together with Nd substituting for Ba in YCBNC.
