Abstract

The hcp-Co nanowire arrays with the diameter of 25 nm were successfully prepared using a direct-current electrodeposition in the holes of PAAM templates. The crystalline structures and morphologies of Co nanowires were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy with selected-area electron diffraction. The results of high-temperature X-ray diffraction indicate the structural change from hcp to fcc for Co nanowires embedded in the PAAM has been inhibited. It is suggested that the inhibition of structural transformation be caused by the size finite effects of the PAAM.
