Abstract

The enthalpy relaxation technique for studying structural relaxation in metallic glasses is reviewed. Results on reversible and irreversible relaxation in a range of metal-metalloid and purely metallic glasses are presented, and the roles of diffusion and chemical short-range order are discussed. Data are presented on the Mössbauer effect in a PdNiPSi glass doped with enriched 57Fe where reversible structural relaxation effects may be clearly seen for the first time.
