Abstract

The phase diagram of the NbH system was studied by x-ray diffraction, neutron scattering, and metallography. The alpha yields alpha ' transition can be explained as a consequence of elastic dipoledipole interaction. From the BETA -phase lattice parameter, an additional interaction, the direct H-H interaction, plays a critical role in the order-disorder alpha ' -- BETA transition. A new phase, gamma , was found which is stable within the BETA - phase region at low temperatures. The double-force tensor was determined and the orthorhombic distortion model was funther applied to Ta and V hybrids. (32 figures, 84 references) (DLC)
