Abstract

This paper demonstrates the analysis of the U.S. National Bridge Inventory to determine the relative operational structural performances of bridge materials at the serviceability limit states. The study considers the concept of structural deficiency and the objective of life-cycle expectancy to analyze criteria averages and distinct deterioration trends over time. The multiple-criteria diagnostic approach integrates the condition, durability, longevity, rate and pattern performances, to determine the overall equivalent structural performances. The study provides the most comprehensive national network-level comparative perspective of the operational structural performances of bridge materials under actual practices and circumstances.
