Abstract
The results of PMR and IR analyses show that blocks are not formed by dimethyl maleate (DMM) and dimethyl fumarate (DMFM) units in copolymers of ethylene with DMM and DMFM prepared by radical copolymerization. In both ethylene-DMM and ethylene DMFM copolymers the ester units are in two possible configurations: threo- and erithro-, and there is no difference between the stereochemical compositions of the copolymers of ethylene with DMM and DMFM. The number of units in threo-configuration is approximately double that in the erithro-configuration, irrespective of the copolymers composition.
