Abstract

The purpose of this article is describing the structural and functional features of scientific-technical terms with the names of animals. In this research, for the first time, zoonimical terms are analyzed. The article deals with the word-building patterns with the help of which technical terms are formed. These technical terms contain zoonims as key constitutive elements. The number of these terms is given according to the definite structure on the basis of which the terms are built. There is also a hypothesis about the reasons for forming technical terms with zoonimical components. The analysis of these terms allows to contributing to the solution of some problems in lexicology and terminology of the English language. The practical utility of this research involves the possibility to use its results and conclusions in the pedagogical practice, in particular, in teaching technical translation in universities, in making different courses that would be devoted to semantics and terminology problems.
