Abstract

One of the essential phases in software development processes is user requirements identification, commonly using qualitative methods. The Social Application of Information Technology is an implementation of information technology in social related aspects, such as Knowledge Sharing System. In the Social Application of Information Technology, besides elements of functionality but also the accuracy and representativeness of the users’ needs and requirements are important factors. In this study, a quantitative method with Structural Equation Modeling technique was utilized rather than commonly using qualitative methods, in identifying the users’ requirements in the software development of Knowledge Sharing System. Theory of Planned Behavior was used as basic theory. Data collected using questioners, and the sample distribution planned with 95% level of confidence. Samples selected randomly totaled 82 people from members of the AISEC, Sriwijaya University, Palembang. By counting all hypotheses those were related to the basic theory, results shown that the quantitative method with Structural Equation Modeling technique can be used to identify user needs in an effective, accurate, and precise significant representativeness.
