Abstract

Neutron diffraction and low field susceptibility measurements are reported. It is shown that Fe ions have a strong preference for Cul sites and that an oxygen gain is obtained at high substitution rates. The initial decrease of T c with x is found similar in both Y and H o series but the low temperature diamagnetic shielding is lower in Ho compounds. It is argued that magnetic pair-breaking effects are also effective in the new high T c superconductors.
