Abstract

A new single molecular magnet Dy2(OAc)4(pan)2(H2O)2 (1, pan = 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol) has been prepared by the assembly of pan and dysprosium acetate, in respect to the versatile coordination ability of pan to the various central metal ions. Single crystal X-ray analysis indicates that 1 is a dinuclear complex assembled by two Dy3+ centers, four OAc− and two pan groups. The acetate groups featured by the diversified coordination modes bridge up the adjacent Dy3+ centers, giving rise up to the formation of the dinuclear structure. The complex 1 exhibits magnetic property in respect to the central Dy3+ ions, and magnetic measurement indicates the significant single molecular magnet behavior with an effective energy barrier of 30 K.
