Abstract

We investigate the effect of holmium substitution on the structural and magnetic proprieties of La0.5-xHoxCa0.5MnO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15) manganites synthesized by sol-gel method. The structural analysis shows that all the holmium-based samples are single phase and crystallize in the orthorhombic structure with Pnma space group. The magnetic characterization have shown that increasing Ho content leads to the weakening of ferromagnetic interaction in favor of charge ordering which changes its magnetic nature from antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic. In addition, a suppression of the spin-glass like state is induced by the increase in Ho concentration. All the studied compounds are characterized by magnetic phase separation phenomenon.
