Abstract

A novel 3D metal-organic framework of zinc(II) urocanate, {[Zn( L 1) 2](H 2O) 4.25} n , was hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This compound crystallizes in the tetragonal system with the space group I4(1)/ a and cell parameters a = b = 18.3113(9), c = 22.398(2), V = 7510.2(9) Å 3 and Z = 16. The crystal structure presents a novel fourfold-interpenetrated diamondoid network with 1D open channels in which the water molecules are trapped. This compound exhibits a strong blue-fluorescent emission in the solid state.
