Abstract
Strengths‐based theories of sexual offending are consistent with a positive psychological approach to understanding and treating sexually abusive behaviour. The Good Lives Model is a comprehensive strengths‐based theory of offender rehabilitation, and consequently the focus of this chapter. First, an overview is presented of the general principles of rehabilitation and causes of offending proposed by the Good Lives Model. Next, the integration of the Good Lives Model with the Self‐Regulation Model – Revised, an empirically validated model of the offence process in sexual offenders, is described. Finally, practice implications of the Good Lives Model are summarized, and examples of Good Lives Model‐derived interventions are provided. Throughout the chapter, reference is made to emerging empirical research on the Good Lives Model and sexual offending.
