Abstract
Abstract The bending strength, fracture toughness and thermal shockresistance of porous alumina with and without nano-Al 2 O 3 additions was determined. Significant increases in bending strength and fracture toughness were observed for the porous ceramics with nano-Al 2 O 3 additions. The retained strength after thermal fatigue and the sustained number of thermal cycles before general failure of the porous ceramics with nano-Al 2 O 3 additions are higher than that without additions.
