Abstract

It has been recognized that composite materials are being used widely and successfully in primary load bearing structures in many modern industrial fields. Thus, the strength of composites is an important issue to be addressed (Hinton & Soden, 1998). One must be confident in their load carrying capacity before making efficient use of them. The purpose of any stress analysis is to predict the conditions under which the materials will fail, and to determine the allowable external loads for a desired margin of safety.
