Abstract
The Yang-Mills type field equations of the Poincaré gauge theory of gravity are analyzed for their “strength” in the sense of Einstein. In a d-dimensional spacetime we find for the corresponding “index” the surprisingly simple expression S PG = ( d + 1) d( d − 1) ( d − 2). This is a new result following from a corresponding formula for general Yang-Mills systems.
