Abstract
ABSTRACT Miyazawa Kenji’s magnum opus upholds the value of resilience, experiential learning through interaction with nature, and feeling the absolute joy of existence through education. These values should be encouraged in today’s world of fierce competition and rigid institutionalization of education. This study aims to understand these values and their implications in education. The paper analyses the content of a poem, “Ame ni mo makezu” translated as “Strong in the Rain,” and a story (“The Nighthawk Star”) by Miyazawa Kenji. The detailed analysis of these literary pieces’ themes, characters, and symbols would illuminate the value and knowledge framework Kenji encoded in his work for learners and educators. This would help reimagine a better education system embedded with such values.
