Abstract

This paper examines a recent article by Ray (1982) concerning lithic procurement and methods of determining lithic resource availability from stream gravel bars. The purpose of the paper is to discuss two problematical assumptions concerning prehistoric selective criteria and the use of modem streams as analogs for prehistoric streams which are implicit in Ray's method.
