Abstract

This article considers the structure, composition, stratigraphy, and paleontological characteristics of the upper part of the Bazar-Dara suite in the Murgab-Aksu structural-facies zone. In the Intermediate subzone, 350 - 400 m below the top of the suite, are two reference horizons with characteristic strata of quartz sandstones. The upper of these two horizons contains bryozoans and rare ammonoids that date it at the top of the Upper Carboniferous (?) — base of the Lower Permian, as well as brachiopods of late Paleozoic appearance. Asselian ammonoids were found near the top of the Bazar-Dara suite in the Intermediate subzone (the Shor-Bulak-say River). Toward the Central subzone, the thickness of the deposits lying between the upper sandstone horizon and the top of the suite increases to 600 - 800 m. In the Central subzone, near the top of the suite, are three localities of Sakmarian — early Artinskian brachiopods and bryozoans. Thus the section through the Bazar-Dara suite expands from the Intermediate t...
