Abstract

The study describes the strata mechanics and convergence monitoring while depillaring in a single lift of thick coal seam by cable bolting method. Based on the rock mechanical investigation, the use of a 19-mm diameter rope as support was applied to hold the immediate roof over the coal seam. The field application was carried out in Bonbohal (R-VI) seam of the case study mine for the extraction of full thickness by a single lift considering geotechnical parameters. The rate of percentage of extraction was found at 68%, and simultaneously, no spontaneous heating was observed during the extraction of the pillars. Thus, this paper deals with the cable bolting method to extract thick coal seam by depillaring in a single-lift operation. Therefore, the result of the study of convergence behavior will help to design the depillaring panels. A support system and strict observation of the reading of strata monitoring instruments will help to take corrective measures in advance during extraction as well as provide insight for future extractions more safely and efficiently.
