Abstract

The strain hardening parameter of irradiated Zircaloy-2, has been evaluated using two empirical equations, namely Hollomon's and Voce's. Room temperature ring tension test data generated on irradiated fuel element cladding tubes as well as the 573 K tension test data obtained on irradiated pressure tubes, were utilised. The cladding tubes were from fuel elements of Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS) that had experienced burnup ranging from 6000 to 15000 MWD/T. The pressure tubes had undergone 3.6 Effective Full Power Years of operation in Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS). Of the two equations employed for the study, Voce's equation was found to be more suitable for predicting the uniform ductility and ultimate tensile strength values in conformity with experimentally observed results.
