Abstract

AbstractThe radiolysis of hexane has been examined as a function of temperature and dose. Iodine has been used as scavenger to distinguish between radical and molecular reactions. The G‐values of the latter are independent of temperature, whereas the sum of the products derived from radical reactions increases with temperature. This means that the overall decomposition of hexane has a positive temperature coefficient. A temperature independent probability for primary bond fission forming either radicals or molecular products has been calculated.
