Abstract

The storyline is a teaching approach that allows for the students to learn actively thanks to the progressive story series and to the key questions that make the transition between these series. The aim of the study is to determine the effects of Storyline-based activities on the creative thinking skills of 4th grade elementary school students and their motivation for learning social studies, and to detect the students’ opinions related to the activities carried out. For this purpose, teaching activities have been organized according to the achievements within the scope of the "Fortunately, there is" unit of the Social Studies lessons. "Torrance Creative Thinking Test" and "Motivational Scale for Learning Social Studies" were applied before and after the teaching activities prepared as the pre and post test. Additionally, after the activities done, a focus group interview was carried out. There is a significant difference between the pre and post test scores of the students in the experimental group, according to the data obtained in the research. This significant difference is in favor of the final test. As a result of which, it can be said that the application of the Storyline approach in the Social Studies class contributes positively to the students' creative thinking skills and their motivation for learning social studies. Besides, students’ opinions related to the activities carried out are very positive.
