Abstract

AbstractOur study aims to shed light on the physics behind the splash phenomenon caused by droplet impact onto a granular bed and to develop a reliable tool for predicting erosion and sediment transport in various natural and industrial settings. To achieve this, we construct a probabilistic model (based on simple physical assumptions) of particle splash resulting from the impact of a liquid droplet or solid intruder on a granular bed. The model is based on integer partition and provides a probability distribution of the number of ejected particles to arbitrary areas around the point of impact. We validate the model's predictions with experimental data to ensure its accuracy and reliability.
