Abstract

Analysis of coverage is a fundamental design issue in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). This issue has been investigated in prior works. However, the effect of wireless channel fading on these parameters has been usually neglected. To take into account fading and the randomness of node locations in analyzing coverage, we model the WSN using stochastic geometry and obtain its coverage. In this paper, we obtain the covered area of WSN considering the signal power and noise variance in Voronoi tessellation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to analyze the coverage area based on the number of sensors, radius of sensors, signal power and noise variance, simultaneously. In the simulations, results of the proposed analysis are compared with two commonly used traditional models. It is shown that these three different analytical models have similar performance in same conditions.
