Abstract

It is the purpose of this paper to point out whether the application of stochastic considerations to the entrainment phenomena is useful or not. The results on the effect of particles-holdup in the bed upon the entrainment rate coefficient were discussed, considering entrainment-phenomena of particles from gas-solids fluidized beds as stochastic motions of particles. This experiment was performed in the batch system and weights of entrainment-particles were measured continuously. More detailed experimental and theoretical research is required than the phenomenal analysis based upon macroscopical reaction rate coefficient in the past. Motions of entrainment particles and physical meaning of the rate-coefficient were discussed by transcient rate probability coefficient. As a result, experimental results can be explained well near the steady state by transcient stochastic theory, where the probability expresses in the values relative to the standard particles-holdup in the bed. That is, entrainment rate coefficient depends upon the particles-holdup.
