Abstract

The Eastern Frontier was of vital importance for the achievement of the National Struggle. Bolshevik Russia and the Allies planned the establishment of an Armenia State in Eastern Anatolia. When Bolshevik Revolution took place in the First World War, the Russian army withdrew from the area. Then, the Turkish army went to the Caucasus. Yet, the Ottoman Empire retreated to the border before the First World War, with the Armistice of Mudros. The Armenians occupied Kars and neighboring places, abandoned by The Turkish army. The Armenians tried to expand their occupation zones. But, the Turkish army being under the command of the 15th Corps Commander Kazim Karabekir Pasha, began operations against the Armenians. The Armenians were defeated in a short time and signed the Treaty of Gyumri. This operation in eastern Anatolia was closely monitored in Trabzon. People in Trabzon were closely interested in these developments concerning the operations and particularly the newspaper Istikbâl, the most important journal in the city at the time, provided them with the news. In this study, the reflections of the operation in eastern Anatolia and victory will be highlighted by the Istikbâl newspaper in Trabzon
