Abstract

The children aged 6-12 years encounter tooth decay, this has become something that needs to be considered, because the condition of their teeth and mouth when they were children will have an effect that will later be related to their teeth and mouth. Early education usually starts from parents to maintain dental health by applying the correct way of brushing teeth. The behavior of brushing teeth properly is still low. Tooth brushing is a method used to remove food debris from the smooth surface of the teeth. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of the stillman tooth brushing technique on the skills and status of dental hygiene in grade 3 students at SDN Pondoksari, Tasikmalaya Regency. The type of research used by the researcher is a quasi-experimental without a control group with a Design Pretest-Posttest One Group (O1 X O2). The Sample in this study were 15 third grade students at SDN Pondoksari, Tasikmalaya Regency. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. Data analysis using data tabulation and Wilcoxon test. Results: there was an increase in tooth brushing skills from the previous respondent with good skill criteria as many as 1 person (7%) to 12 people (80%) and a decrease in dental hygiene (initial OHIS) before giving intervention on poor criteria from 12 people (80%) to 2 people (13%) and decreased dental hygiene (final OHIS) after the intervention of good criteria from 0% to 9 people (60%). Conclusion: there is an effect of dental hygiene status and student skills before and after the intervention on 3rd grade students at SDN Pondoksari Tasikmalaya Regency.
