Abstract

Background: Incorrect tooth brushing technique is still often done by the elderly in everyday life horizontally and vertically. The severity of gingival recession based on Marini (2019) can be measured and assessed as follows: mild recession (≤ 3mm), moderate gingival recession: (3-4mm), severe gingival recession: (> 4mm).Research objective: To analyze the relationship between improper tooth brushing technique and gum recession in the elderly aged 55-65 years at Posbindu Mawar, Cempaka Village, Plumbon District, Cirebon Regency.Methodology: The research method used is descriptive analytic research with a cross-sectional design, namely looking for the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable by taking a momentary measurement or measuring it only once and no follow-up or follow-up is carried out within a certain period of timeResults: Research on the relationship between tooth brushing technique and gum recession in the elderly aged 55-65 years at Posbindu Mawar, Cempaka Village, Plumbon District, Cirebon Regency. The research method used is the CrossSectional method. Data obtained using statistical tests using the chi-square test. The age range for the research sample at Posbindu Mawar, Cempaka Village, Plumbon District, Cirebon Regency was 22 people. There were 6 people (27.2%) aged 55-60 years, while 16 people (72.8%) had gum recession and aged 60-65 years. the majority of respondents carried out tooth brushing activities using the horizontal method, namely as many as 12 people (54%). Dam analysis obtained a p-value = 0.008 (p <0.05), meaning that there is a relationship between tooth brushing technique and gum recession in the elderly.Conclusion: There is an average analysis of inaccurate tooth brushing techniques that are commonly carried out in daily life, at Posbindu Mawar, Cempaka Village, Plumbon District, Cirebon Regency. It is recommended that dental health workers provide guidance to posbindu cadres targeting the elderly through dental and oral health education, especially proper and correct tooth brushing techniques.
