Abstract

This article looks at the technological and economical challenges in changing to a hydrogen based fuel economy. It discusses the use of hydrogen as fuel in vehicles, and in fuel cells to generate electricity. The main obstacle to a hydrogen economy is the production technology. Hydrogen generation by electrolysis using nuclear power, wind power and other renewable resources is examined. Also considered are the considerable storage and distribution networks that would be required.
