Abstract

This article aims to raise awareness regarding the inadvertent misuse and/or overuse of antimicrobial agents in wound management and provide the correct indications, concentrations, and application techniques for commonly used antimicrobials to enhance wound care outcomes. A literature review revealed that misuse of topical antimicrobials can compromise wound healing and lead to adverse effects. Each antimicrobial presents unique benefits and challenges, necessitating careful consideration of indications, concentrations, and duration of use to optimize therapeutic outcomes. To mitigate the misuse of antimicrobials, wound care professionals must continually assess the wound and make changes to treatment based on the assessment finding.
