Abstract
The incredible achievements of Tad Sendzimir as inventor, steel maker and American entrepreneur acquire a near miraculous quality when seen in the context of his stormy life and career. Born in Poland, Sendzimir's odyssey spans pre-World War I Lwow, Krakow, Kiev and Shanghai. There are memorable portraits of these cities which see, as if they could only come from an eyewitness. Sendzimir lived through World War I, walked unscathed through the Russian Revolution, the Chinese Revolution, the rise of fascism and World War II before becoming an American.
