Abstract
Theoretical analysis of SHS reactions is oriented toward elucidating the conditions at which frontal combustion of heterogeneous systems can occur in a steady wave propagation mode, which is most convenient for practical synthesis of desired condensed products. Burning velocity and temperature profile in a steady wave are independent of the ignition procedure. The ignition method can affect the transient period only between ignition and the onset of steady wave propagation. The necessary conditions for establishing a steady mode are a sufficiently exothermic reaction and a strong temperature dependence of the reaction rate.
